Ashok Leyland and Aidrivers launch autonomous electric truck for ports
Ashok Leyland, the Hinduja Group’s Indian flagship and a key commercial vehicle (CV) manufacturer and Aidrivers are collaborating to develop autonomous electric terminal trucks to meet the port industry’s net zero emissions requirements.
To meet the demands of sustainable autonomous transport in the port industry, the two companies will combine their specialist knowledge and experience.
Ashok Leyland Company is an Indian multinational automotive manufacturer, headquartered in Chennai. It is owned by the Hinduja Group. It was founded in 1948 as Ashok Motors which became Ashok Leyland in the year 1955
This truck model, which will be built on an Ashok Leyland platform and will include Aidrivers’ autonomous ecosystem, will be manufactured at Ashok Leyland’s facilities.
Orders for delivery in 2024 can be placed now, and the first fleet of vehicles is expected to be ready for real-world terminal operations early next year.

Earlier, In March 2022, Ashok Leyland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hinduja Tech Limited, a global engineering, and digital technologies solutions company, to collaborate on developing new products and technologies for the commercial vehicle industry. The MoU covers areas such as electric mobility, connected vehicles, autonomous driving, and digital platforms.
