First made-in-India battery cell line for EVs unveiled by Log9 Materials
Line of Log9 Battery Cells
On April 21, 2023, Log9 Materials celebrated its eighth anniversary, and to commemorate the occasion, cofounder Pankaj Sharma announced the first made-in-India battery cell line for EVs. He referred to it as a revolutionary deep-tech movement.
“It’s not every day that something happens for the first time in a country of 1.5 billion people,” he said in his speech.
He also stated,
“Log9 wants to contribute and build the deepest-tech company, but in collaboration with the best academic minds.”
Day Zero was a two-and-a-half-hour program in which the company discussed;
- The first lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in India.
- Log9’s recent technological advancements.
In the previous year;
- Log 9 has been able to install over 3000 of their batteries on Indian roads.
- These vehicles have traveled more than 5 million kilometers on Indian roads at the same time.
- Log9 has been able to reduce 440 tonnes of CO2 emissions in the country by promoting and enabling electric mobility.
- Log9 has applied for over 80 patents.
- A team of over 300 engineers
- Log9 has expanded into 20 cities, including tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
- Log9 has been able to scale its battery production in the manufacturing plant to 1500 units per month.
- The event’s main purpose is to announce the indigenous production of lithium-ion batteries in India.
- The audience, like us, was eager to learn everything there was to know.
What went into making the plan a reality?
- This line was put together by 100+ people from the cell technology and battery technology teams, who designed it, worked with suppliers and vendors, and fought covid in China.
- Over 5000 man-hours were expended in bringing the production line to India.
- 10,000+ trials have taken place in various assessment tests at the supplier’s and factory’s end.

Lithium iron phosphate battery (LFP) | 3.2V | 55Ah, 160Wh/kg | 14% |
As it is a highly controlled environment, the event included a live walk-through of the facility as it was inaugurated.
Dr. Vijay Raghavan, Former Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Dr. K Sivan, Ex-Chairman of ISRO, and other dignitaries from IITs across the country attended the event.
The plant’s starting output is 50 MWh. In a statement, Log9 Materials Co-Founder & CEO Akshay Singhal said, “Our cells are designed from the ground up in India, for India; to suit Indian operating conditions, climate, and customers, and are therefore going to play a crucial role in making India self-reliant while aiding the nation realize its ambitious electric mobility vision.”
Log9 Materials has also released its own internally designed battery management system (BMS), which is integrated with power control methods and SoX algorithms, to provide excellent safety and reliability for high-power applications. The company also announced Log9 Rise, an academic collaboration initiative that supports the development of a talent pool for battery technologies in the country.
