Ola Electric’s CEO announces a new product launch, to debut next month
Ola Electric has hinted at the arrival of a scooter in the country. Bhavish Aggarwal, the company’s CEO, confirmed the e-launch scooters on Twitter.
“We’re excited to announce our next product event in July.” Part one of the #endICEAge show! Part 1 of the show would see the end of the ICE age on scooters! With the S1 Pro, S1 Air, and… XXXX… and possibly one more thing!” Aggarwal wrote in the post.
He also shared a sneak peek of the scooter’s headlamp. In the country, the computer currently offers three electric scooters: the Ola S1, the Ola S1 Air, and the Ola S1 Pro. Ola S1 Air deliveries will begin in July of this year.
Ola Electric is also said to be working on a new helmet detection system. According to Autocar India, the feature will use a camera to determine whether or not the rider is wearing a helmet. The data is then shared with the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), which relays it to the Motor Control Unit (MCU). The MCU unit will also determine whether the vehicle will enter Ride mode or not.
According to the report, if the e-scooter is in Ride mode and the system detects that the rider is not wearing a helmet, the e-scooter will automatically switch to Park mode. In addition, a notification will be sent to the user’s dashboard reminding them to wear a helmet.
“Only if the system can detect that the rider is wearing a helmet, will the VCU allow the electric scooter/bike to switch to Ride mode, and it will then continue monitoring the rider,” the report adds.
Meanwhile, Ola Electric will start shipping the Ola S1 Air in July of this year. For those who are unaware, the Ola S1 Air was introduced in the country last year. The electric scooter is the company’s most cost-effective e-scooter to date. It is available in three different variants, with the base model starting at 84,999.
