Renault, the European carmaker, announced on 13, June 2023, that it had reached a production milestone of 100,000 vehicles in India.

The company stated that its manufacturing plant in Chennai was critical to this achievement. The facility can produce 480,000 units per year, and the company has made significant investments in manufacturing, technology, and talent to build a strong production infrastructure.

Venkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations, stated that this was a significant milestone for Renault and demonstrated the company’s unwavering commitment to the Indian market.

Mamillapalle stated at a roundtable with journalists in Chennai that the French automaker will launch an electric vehicle in 2025. The EV will be one of three new vehicles introduced by the company. The EV will be one of the three new cars that the company would introduce in India by 2025.

 “We are getting into the EV segment with aggressive positioning and also into the bigger cars in the ‘C’ segment of above 4-meter length from 2025 onwards,” he said. 

Furthermore, Mamillapalle stated that this is all part of Renault’s long-term plan to become profitable and have a customer base of two million in India by 2030. This figure is currently at 9 lacks.

Renault also stated that in the calendar year 2022, it sold over 100,000 vehicles, including 84,000 domestic and 28,000 export sales. “The target for the calendar year 2023 is also similar,” Mamillapalle added.

The Renault-Nissan alliance has committed Rs 5,300 crore to the development of six products.

Renault India currently offers three passenger vehicle models to its customers in India, including the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber, and exports to 14 countries in the SAARC, Asia Pacific, Indian Oceanic Region, South Africa, and East Africa regions.
