EV Policy of the UP Government announcing Road Tax Exemption & Free Registration on EVs

By providing incentives to potential customers, the Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has proposed a daring initiative to encourage the adoption of electric cars (EVs). With the help of alluring incentives for both EV users and manufacturers, the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy 2022 hopes to considerably increase the use of EVs in the state.

Significant changes to the UP EV policy

  1. The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to waive the three-year road tax and registration charge on EV purchases starting on October 14, 2022.
  2. On EVs sold and registered in the state between October 14, 2022, and October 13, 2025, the policy offers a 100% tax waiver.
  3. From October 14, 2025, to October 13, 2027, the fourth and fifth years of the policy’s application period, a 100 percent discount on EVs produced, sold, and registered in the state will be offered.
  4. The policy applies to all vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, strong hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), battery electric vehicles (BEV), and fuel cell electric vehicles, that have electric motors powered by batteries, ultracapacitors, or fuel cells (FCEV).

Uttar Pradesh has functioning electric vehicles

The 3,997 EV owners in Agra who have already paid taxes and registration costs between October 14, 2022, will feel a great deal of relief as a result of this action. 11,340 electric vehicles (EVs) are currently registered with the Divisional Transport Office (RTO) in Agra, 3,997 of which were purchased after October 14, 2022. They consist of 30 automobiles, the remainder of two-wheelers, and 437 e-rickshaws.

Subsidy on different vehicles

Additionally, the regulation provides a 15% discount off the factory price of EVs bought in Uttar Pradesh. For the first two lakh electric two-wheelers, this subsidy amounts to Rs 5,000 per vehicle, the first 50,000 electric three-wheelers, up to Rs 12,000 per vehicle, and for the first 25,000 electric four-wheelers, up to Rs 1 lakh per vehicle. Also, the first 400 buses bought in the state will receive a subsidy of up to Rs 20 lakh for each electric bus. In addition, a subsidy of 10% on the factory price up to Rs 1,000,000 per vehicle will be provided to a maximum of 1,000 e-goods carriers.
