Hyundai and Jio-bp Connect Their Charging Networks, Taking myHyundai Access Beyond 37,000 Points

Hyundai Motor India has partnered with Jio-bp to integrate their electric vehicle charging networks, adding more than 7,000 Jio-bp Pulse charging points to the myHyundai platform. The integration takes the number of public charging points discoverable through Hyundai’s app from more than 30,000 to over 37,000 locations across India.

The number is significant, but it needs to be understood correctly. Hyundai is not claiming to own or operate 37,000 charging points. Instead, the automaker is increasingly turning the myHyundai app into an aggregation layer through which EV users can discover and access charging infrastructure operated by multiple networks. That distinction makes this partnership more interesting than a conventional charging-network expansion announcement.

Under the partnership, more than 7,000 Jio-bp Pulse charging points across over 300 cities will become accessible through the myHyundai app. Jio-bp’s charging portfolio includes DC fast chargers ranging from 60 kW to 480 kW, while Hyundai says the network maintains approximately 96% uptime.

Jio-bp also has charging infrastructure along major national highways, making the integration relevant beyond intra-city charging. For EV buyers considering longer journeys, charger availability is only one part of the problem. Charger power, operational reliability and the ability to find working stations without switching repeatedly between different applications are becoming equally important.

The partnership works in both directions. Hyundai’s own high-capacity DC chargers will gradually be integrated into the Jio-bp Pulse Charge Pro app. Hyundai currently operates 183 DC fast-charging stations and plans to increase its proprietary network to 600 stations by 2030.

India’s charging market has developed through numerous CPOs, OEM-backed networks and energy companies, each building its own infrastructure and, frequently, its own digital interface. The physical charger network may therefore be expanding faster than the customer experience surrounding it.

An EV driver should ideally not need five applications simply because five different companies operate chargers along a journey.

Hyundai’s strategy points toward a different model. Instead of attempting to own every charging asset required by its customers, the automaker can integrate external CPO networks and provide them through a common interface. According to Hyundai, the myHyundai charging platform is also available to EV owners irrespective of vehicle brand, expanding its potential role beyond Hyundai’s own customer base.

That creates an interesting layer in the charging business. As physical charger deployment increases, the next competitive question may not simply be who owns the most chargers, but who can make the largest number of reliable chargers conveniently accessible from one interface.

For Jio-bp, the partnership potentially increases traffic and visibility across its existing network without requiring customers to first become dedicated Jio-bp app users. For Hyundai, it immediately expands the charging footprint available through its digital ecosystem without requiring comparable capital expenditure on thousands of new locations.

This asset-light aggregation approach could become increasingly important for automakers. Building proprietary fast chargers at strategic locations can improve the customer experience, but attempting to build a nationwide standalone charging network for one vehicle brand is capital intensive and risks duplicating infrastructure that already exists.

Hyundai appears to be pursuing both routes simultaneously: build selected proprietary infrastructure while aggregating much larger third-party networks around it.

That may ultimately be the more important takeaway from the Hyundai–Jio-bp partnership. India’s public charging market does not only need more chargers. It increasingly needs interoperability, reliable uptime and simpler access to the chargers that already exist.
