Vietnamese EV manufacturer VinFast has patented a new electric scooter in India, featuring 14-inch wheels and a conventional suspension setup. The model could be developed specifically for Indian buyers as the company prepares to enter the electric two-wheeler market.

VinFast is expanding its plans for India’s electric mobility sector with the patent filing of a new electric scooter. Filed in April 2026, the latest design patent offers a glimpse of a potential India-specific model that appears different from the electric scooters currently available in the company’s home market, Vietnam.

The development marks another step in VinFast’s preparations to enter India’s competitive electric two-wheeler segment. The company has already patented several electric scooter designs and a motorcycle in India this year, indicating that it could be evaluating multiple products for its upcoming local portfolio. According to Autocar India, this is the fifth two-wheeler design patented by the Vietnamese manufacturer in the country.

The patent drawings reveal a conventional scooter design with a relatively clean front fascia. The VinFast logo is positioned near the top of the front section, while a horizontally mounted headlamp appears to be integrated with indicators on either side.

The scooter features an exposed handlebar and an instrument cluster that could use either an LCD or TFT display. However, the final display technology and equipment list have not been confirmed.

One of the key highlights is the apparent use of 14-inch wheels at both ends. The suspension setup includes telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers, suggesting a practical configuration for everyday commuting.

The patent also indicates that the scooter could use a rear-wheel hub motor. If this configuration makes it to production, it could help keep the mechanical layout relatively simple. Based on its proportions and possible powertrain arrangement, the scooter could be positioned towards the entry-level end of VinFast’s electric two-wheeler range.

However, the company has not disclosed its motor output, battery capacity, top speed or expected riding range.

The underside view in the patent drawings shows substantial cladding around the floorboard, suggesting that the battery could potentially be positioned in this area. Such a layout may leave additional space beneath the seat for carrying everyday items.

The actual battery location and available storage capacity remain unconfirmed, as the patent only reveals the design rather than the complete production specifications.

The drawings also show a conventional key-based ignition system. Whether the final model will offer keyless operation or other connected features is not yet known.

VinFast Strengthens Its India Entry Plans

The new patent comes as VinFast prepares to establish a presence in India’s electric two-wheeler market. The company has signed letters of intent with more than 50 dealers to develop its sales and service network across 15 states and union territories, with plans covering 34 cities.

This dealership expansion could help the company establish customer access and after-sales support ahead of its electric scooter launch. Its upcoming portfolio may include both existing international models and products developed specifically for Indian customers.

The latest design appears different from VinFast’s previously patented scooters, including designs associated with the Viper and Rasad models. This raises the possibility that the company is considering a broader product strategy for India rather than relying entirely on its overseas lineup.

Depending on its final specifications and pricing, the upcoming VinFast electric scooter could compete with established electric two-wheelers from manufacturers such as TVS, Bajaj, Ather and other players in India’s growing EV market.

A competitive price, practical riding range, reliable battery performance and a strong service network will be important factors in determining its market prospects.

VinFast has not officially announced the scooter’s launch date, price or final specifications. The patent filing also does not guarantee that the design will enter production.

For now, the latest development signals VinFast’s continued interest in India’s electric two-wheeler segment. More details about the company’s product lineup, manufacturing plans and launch strategy are expected as it moves closer to its market entry.
