Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled its new ELON 3X electric sleeper coach, a 15-metre, three-axle electric bus designed for long-distance intercity transportation in India. The new electric coach comes with 42 sleeper berths, two battery pack options and an architecture developed specifically for electric mobility. The company is targeting mid-2027 to begin commercial production, while reservations for the vehicle have already opened.
The ELON 3X has been developed entirely in India using Blackbuck EV’s proprietary Born-Electric Skateboard Architecture. Unlike conventional electric buses adapted from diesel-powered platforms, the new coach has been engineered from the ground up as an electric vehicle. Its three-axle configuration is designed to support higher passenger and luggage capacity while improving highway stability and passenger comfort.
ELON 3X Offers 42 Sleeper Berths and Two Battery Options
The new electric sleeper coach features 42 passenger berths, along with dedicated seating arrangements for the driver and co-driver. It also provides more than 9 cubic metres of dedicated luggage storage capacity, making it suitable for long-distance passenger operations where luggage requirements are significant.
Blackbuck EV is offering the ELON 3X in two battery configurations: 425 kWh and 565 kWh. These battery options are intended to meet different operational requirements of intercity transport operators.
The company has integrated the vehicle’s structural design, electric powertrain, battery storage and electrical systems into a unified platform. Its lightweight construction has been developed to improve energy efficiency while maintaining passenger capacity and vehicle durability.
However, Blackbuck EV has not yet announced the vehicle’s certified driving range, charging specifications or pricing details.
Advanced Suspension and Safety Technologies
The ELON 3X electric sleeper coach comes equipped with an independent suspension system and active tag-axle steering. It also features Electronically Controlled Air Suspension (ECAS), designed to improve passenger comfort, vehicle handling and manoeuvrability, particularly during highway operations and low-speed movements.
In terms of safety, the electric coach includes an Electronic Braking System (EBS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and disc brakes across all wheels.
According to the company, the vehicle has undergone four years of engineering and product development, including two years of real-world road testing. The testing programme covered vehicle handling, stability, ride comfort, durability and integration of various vehicle systems.
The coach has also been engineered with reference to European automotive standards and international design practices, supported by in-house engineering capabilities and collaborations with international automotive suppliers.
Commercial Production Expected in Mid-2027
Blackbuck EV has opened reservations for the ELON 3X and is currently engaging with potential intercity transport operators ahead of its market introduction. Commercial production is targeted to begin in mid-2027.
According to R K Raju, Founder and CEO of Blackbuck Electric Vehicles, the company has developed the electric sleeper coach around a purpose-built platform, focusing on passenger comfort, energy efficiency and operating economics.
The launch of the ELON 3X represents another development in India’s electric commercial vehicle segment. With its high-capacity battery options, sleeper configuration and dedicated electric architecture, the coach aims to address the requirements of long-distance passenger transportation while supporting the industry’s transition towards cleaner mobility solutions.
