GreenCell Mobility to use renewable energy to charge its e-bus fleet

GreenCell Mobility, which owns GreenCell Express and runs the ‘NueGo’ electric buses, has signed a deal and invested in a power plant that uses wind and solar energy. This plant, located in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, generates a lot of electricity every year—about 4.6 million units.

This plan will make sure that the NueGo electric buses travelling between cities in the state mostly use clean energy. This switch will help save about 38 thousand tons of CO2 throughout the buses’ lifetime.

This project is expected to significantly reduce dependency on grid power by supplying the bulk of the energy needed for these electric buses from renewable sources, which is in line with GreenCell’s long-term objective of becoming a Net Zero firm.

“This initiative of powering our EVs through renewable energy sources in Madhya Pradesh is more than an innovation; it’s a commitment to our planet and our future generations. We are setting a precedent in the industry, demonstrating that sustainable practices can go hand-in-hand with business growth.”

Devendra Chawla, CEO & MD, GreenCell Mobility said

The goal of GreenCell Mobility is to fully switch from grid power to renewable energy (RE) sources, and the firm says it is actively pursuing agreements along these lines in other states where it operates.

GreenCell is actively working with both central and state stakeholders to promote legislative changes to increase the adoption of RE power for e-Buses. In addition, to ensure that its operations are end-to-end green, the company is investigating the deployment of Battery Energy Storage solutions.
