Uttar Pradesh’s EV policy offers electric two-wheelers benefits through purchase subsidy and exemptions on road tax and registration charges, but the conditions are different for each benefit. Here is the short version.
What is available for electric two-wheelers?
| Benefit | Current provision |
|---|---|
| Purchase subsidy | 15% of ex-factory price |
| Maximum subsidy | ₹5,000 per e2W |
| Vehicle limit under original allocation | Up to 2 lakh e2Ws |
| Budget allocated | ₹100 crore |
| Individual buyer | Subsidy on 1 e2W |
| Aggregator/Fleet operator | Subsidy on up to 10 e2Ws |
| Road tax exemption | 100%, subject to current eligibility |
| Registration fee exemption | 100%, subject to current eligibility |
The ₹5,000 e2W incentive comes from the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing & Mobility Policy, 2022. The subsidy is calculated at 15% of the vehicle’s ex-factory cost, capped at ₹5,000.
Is the ₹5,000 e2W subsidy still available in 2026?
Yes, for eligible pure electric vehicles.
This is important because the original scheme was introduced as an early-bird incentive. However, a subsequent October 2025 amendment and November 2025 implementation order extended the purchase-subsidy framework from 14 October 2025 to 13 October 2027, with the benefit restricted to pure EVs. Hybrids, strong hybrids, plug-in hybrids and similar categories are excluded from this extended period.
For electric two-wheelers, an individual buyer can claim the benefit on one vehicle, while an aggregator or fleet operator can claim it on a maximum of 10 e2Ws.
What about road tax and registration fees?
The treatment is slightly different.
For the first three years of the policy, EVs purchased and registered in Uttar Pradesh received a 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees.
From the fourth and fifth years, the 100% exemption applies to EVs that are:
Manufactured in Uttar Pradesh + Purchased in Uttar Pradesh + Registered in Uttar Pradesh.
So in 2026, an e2W manufactured outside Uttar Pradesh should not automatically be assumed to qualify for the road-tax and registration exemption, even though it may qualify separately for the purchase subsidy.
That distinction matters.
How is the subsidy received?
The buyer has to apply through the Uttar Pradesh EV Subsidy Portal. The subsidy is provided as a reimbursement through direct transfer, after verification by the dealer and the concerned authorities. Applicants need vehicle-registration details, bank details, photograph/signature and supporting documents such as a cancelled cheque.
If an EV is purchased without a battery, only 50% of the admissible purchase subsidy is available.
The quick takeaway
For an electric two-wheeler buyer in Uttar Pradesh in 2026:
₹5,000 purchase subsidy: ✅ Available for eligible pure EVs
Individual vehicle limit: 1 e2W
Fleet/Aggregator limit: Up to 10 e2Ws
100% road-tax exemption: ✅ But current-year localisation conditions matter
100% registration-fee exemption: ✅ Same localisation condition
Current policy window: Up to 13 October 2027
One thing to be careful about
The UP subsidy portal’s FAQ still contains the old 2022–23 eligibility period in one section, while the government’s later November 2025 order extends the relevant pure-EV purchase-subsidy provisions to October 2027. For current eligibility, the newer government order should be read alongside the original policy, rather than relying only on the older FAQ text
