Switch Mobility introduces new eLCVs in India: IeV3 and IeV4
Switch Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of Ashok Leyland, has unveiled two new electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) in India, the Switch IeV3 and IeV4. These vehicles are part of the Switch IeV series, a modular and scalable platform that can produce vehicles with payloads ranging from 1.2 to 4.5 tonnes.
The Switch IeV3 and IeV4 are designed to cater to various transportation needs, such as e-commerce, urban goods distribution, waste management, FMCG and cold supply. They offer a flexible and versatile solution that can adapt to different tasks, contributing to more efficient and sustainable mobility in urban areas.
The Switch IeV series features a 330 V high voltage EV architecture in the 2-3.5 tonne CV category, which is a first in the market. The vehicles are equipped with a robust battery pack ranging from 25.6 to 32.2 kWh, which can deliver a range of up to 300 kilometers of operation in a day (with opportunity charging). The vehicles also have a clutch-less operation, electric power steering system, hill hold assist, reverse park alert, dual tone dashboard, USB ports, spacious cabin, and lockable glove box.
The Switch IeV3 has a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 2590 kg, a payload of 1200 kg, a wheelbase of 2510 mm, and a cargo body dimension of 8.6 ft x 5.3 ft x 1.4 ft. The Switch IeV4 has a GVW of 3490 kg, a payload of 1700 kg, a wheelbase of 2590 mm and a cargo body dimension of 9.7 ft x 5.7 ft x 1.6 ft. Both vehicles have a peak power of 40 kW and 60 kW respectively, and a peak torque of 190 Nm and 230 Nm respectively. They can reach a maximum geared speed of 70 km/h and 80 km/h respectively, and have a gradability of 22% and 23% respectively.
The company has invested INR 100 crore in the development of the new eLCVs and plans to launch two more products in the next five years. The company has also received pre-bookings of 13,000 units from e-commerce players2. The prices of the Switch IeV3 and IeV4 will be announced during their market launch in January 2024, when the customer deliveries will also begin.
Switch Mobility is also looking at exporting the new eLCVs to neighbouring markets such as Nepal and Bangladesh, as well as South East Asian countries, GCC countries and the Middle East, where Ashok Leyland sells its light commercial vehicle products.
The Switch IeV series is a game-changer in the eLCV segment, showcasing Switch Mobility’s global expertise in electrifying logistics. With an industry-leading turnaround time, the Switch IeV series is set to revolutionize last-mile logistics, paving the way for a more efficient and sustainable urban mobility future.
