Guwahati Goes Green: Launch of 200 AC Electric Buses Marks Assam's Eco-Friendly Move

Guwahati goes eco-friendly with induction of total 100 new electric buses manufactured by Tata Motors

Tata Motors gave 100 electric buses to Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC). These buses are smaller, have air conditioning, and are called Tata Ultra electric buses. They’ll travel around Guwahati and are made to make city travel safe and comfy. These special buses don’t make pollution because they use modern batteries. The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, started these buses on January 1, 2024.

“Making public transport more effective and efficient is our mission and we are thankful to the Assam State Government and the ASTC for giving us the opportunity to supply a modern fleet of electric buses. Built with cutting-edge technology and rigorously tested under varied conditions, these buses are eco-friendly and will make public transportation safe, comfortable, tech driven and more efficient. We are elated to have our Tata Ultra electric buses inducted and operational to serve the residents of Guwahati.”

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Rohit Srivastava, Vice President & Business Head – CV Passengers, Tata Motors, said.

So far, Tata Motors has given more than 1,500 electric buses to many cities in India. These buses together have travelled more than 10 crore kilometres and have been working for over 95% of the time. One of their latest buses, the Tata Ultra EV, is a very advanced electric bus for cities. It uses only electricity and is really good at saving energy, meaning it doesn’t use much energy or money to run. People find it easy to get on, it has comfortable seats, and it’s easy for the driver to use.

Plus, it doesn’t release any harmful stuff into the air. It’s also got a bunch of high-tech stuff like stability control, special brakes, air suspension, and a smart system for transport. Safety and comfort are a big deal for this bus. This electric bus shows Tata Motors’ dedication to making public transport cleaner, and it’s great for moving people around cities.
