Honda Cars India is preparing to enter the country’s electric passenger vehicle market with its upcoming 0 Alpha-based electric SUV, scheduled to debut on December 2, 2026. The model will mark a significant milestone in the Japanese automaker’s electrification strategy, with local manufacturing planned for both domestic sales and exports.
First showcased as a prototype at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, the Honda 0 Alpha has since entered an extensive testing programme across India. The company aims to develop an electric SUV suited to Indian road conditions, climate variations and everyday driving requirements.
Honda 0 Alpha EV: Design and Expected Features
The production-specification SUV is expected to retain several design elements from the original concept, including an upright stance, a tall roofline, squared wheel arches and distinctive LED lighting. Its relatively large glass area and space-efficient proportions suggest a focus on passenger comfort and everyday practicality.
The concept also featured integrated front lighting, an illuminated Honda emblem and a distinctive U-shaped rear lighting signature. However, the final production model’s design details are yet to be officially confirmed.
Spy images of test vehicles have offered an early glimpse of the cabin, which is expected to feature a large central touchscreen, a separate digital instrument display and a multifunction steering wheel. Honda has not yet announced the complete feature list or confirmed the availability of advanced driver assistance systems and connected-car technology.
Battery, Range and Performance Details Awaited
Honda has not officially disclosed the 0 Alpha EV’s battery capacity, electric motor output, driving range or charging specifications. These details are expected to emerge closer to its unveiling.
The SUV has been undergoing testing across highways, urban roads and challenging terrain. The programme covers ride comfort, handling, durability, energy efficiency and reliability under different weather conditions, including extreme heat and monsoon conditions. Honda is also evaluating charging compatibility across different charging infrastructure setups in India.
India to Become a Manufacturing and Export Hub
The upcoming electric SUV is planned to be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara facility in Rajasthan. Production for domestic sales and international exports could strengthen India’s role in the company’s global EV strategy.
Local manufacturing may also help Honda manage production costs and compete more effectively in India’s expanding electric SUV segment. However, the company has not announced the vehicle’s official price or localisation levels.
Honda 0 Alpha EV: Expected Rivals in India
The upcoming model is expected to compete with electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and other offerings in the midsize electric SUV segment. Its final positioning will depend on its dimensions, battery options, features and pricing.
With the December 2 debut approaching, Honda’s first India-bound electric SUV could become an important addition to the country’s increasingly competitive EV market. Buyers will be watching for official details on its range, charging performance, equipment and price before assessing its prospects against established rivals.
