In a landmark announcement, the Adani Group has revealed its strategic entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector with a 1126 MW / 3530 MWh project, set to be among the world’s largest single-location BESS deployments. This milestone project will not only redefine India’s clean energy capabilities but also strengthen the nation’s position in the global renewable energy landscape.

The BESS project, comprising over 700 advanced battery containers, will have the capacity to store 3530 MWh of energy, thereby extending power capacity of 1126 MW by nearly three hours. Once commissioned by March 2026, it will become India’s largest BESS installation and a key enabler in supporting round-the-clock renewable power supply.

Driving India’s Energy Transition

This strategic initiative represents a major leap toward India’s energy security and sustainability goals. The large-scale deployment will play a vital role in managing peak power demand, reducing grid congestion, and minimizing solar curtailment. By enabling better integration of renewable energy, it will enhance grid stability, reliability, and efficiency — all critical to India’s shift toward a low-carbon economy.

The project is currently in its advanced deployment stage at Khavda, Gujarat — home to the world’s largest renewable energy plant. Equipped with cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technology and AI-driven energy management systems, the installation aims to deliver maximum efficiency and operational reliability.

According to Adani Group, this pioneering project will act as a cornerstone in global clean energy transformation, enabling energy shifting, load balancing, and 24×7 power availability. Once operational, it will position the Khavda Renewable Energy Park as the world’s largest integrated renewable and storage hub.

A Visionary Step Towards Energy Independence

Commenting on the announcement, Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group, said,

“Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale.”

Scaling Ambitions: 15 GWh by FY27, 50 GWh in Five Years

Building on this flagship BESS deployment, the Adani Group has outlined an ambitious roadmap to expand its energy storage capacity to 15 GWh by FY27, with a long-term target of 50 GWh within five years. This expansion underscores the Group’s vision to create a resilient, future-ready, and sustainable energy ecosystem that aligns with India’s net-zero ambitions and global climate goals.

This scale of growth will also drive innovation in energy storage manufacturing, supply chain development, and green job creation, reinforcing India’s role as a global hub for renewable and storage technologies.
