Coca-Cola’s bottling partners in India are rapidly transitioning to electric mobility, announcing a major expansion of their electric delivery fleet with thousands of e-rickshaws (electric three-wheelers) across the country.

These compact electric vehicles, widely used for passenger transport and last-mile cargo deliveries, are now becoming a key component of Coca-Cola’s logistics operations under the company’s sustainability initiative, “Vividhta ka Uphaar” (“a gift of diversity”).

The rollout is already in progress, with over 5,000 electric three-wheelers deployed in cities including Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, and others. These EVs not only reduce tailpipe emissions but also lower noise pollution and cut operating costs, benefiting both the company and local communities.

Coca-Cola joins a growing group of multinational corporations turning to electric tuk-tuks to decarbonize delivery fleets in Asia. Companies like IKEA, Amazon, and Flipkart have adopted similar three-wheeled EVs to efficiently navigate dense, traffic-congested urban streets while reducing environmental impact.

Unlike North America, where electric delivery primarily relies on four-wheeled trucks and vans, many developing regions favour three-wheeled EVs for their affordability, maneuverability, and ease of charging. These vehicles are particularly suited for hot climates and crowded city streets, offering an optimal solution for last-mile deliveries.

Equipped with 2–4 kW electric motors and 3–5 kWh batteries, these EVs provide truck-like carrying capacity in a smaller, more efficient package. While they cannot haul as much as larger vehicles, e-rickshaws are perfectly sized for urban deliveries, where space and energy efficiency are critical.

Electrek notes that electric tuk-tuks offer a practical city truck alternative, combining mobility, low emissions, and cost savings. They have proven to be highly effective for businesses and even private users seeking compact, eco-friendly cargo solutions.

By embracing e-rickshaws for last-mile delivery, Coca-Cola India is demonstrating leadership in sustainable logistics, aligning with global trends and contributing to India’s EV adoption and emission reduction goals. With this move, electric three-wheelers are cementing their role as a vital tool in India’s green mobility transition, proving that compact EVs can offer both operational efficiency and environmental benefits.
