MG Motor India Unveils Comet EV with Fast-Charging: New Models & Prices Revealed
MG Motor India has recently upgraded its Comet EV, an entry-level electric vehicle, by adding fast-charging capabilities to enhance user convenience.
The introduction of the Excite FC and Exclusive FC variants, as reported by HT Auto, brings a significant improvement in charging times. These models are equipped with a 7.4 kW AC fast charger that reduces the charging duration to less than 3.5 hours for a full charge, a substantial decrease from the previous 7 hours required with a 3.3 kW AC charger.
The Excite FC is priced at ₹8.24 lakh, and the Exclusive FC at ₹9.14 lakh, both prices being ex-showroom.
The new fast-charging variants come as a replacement for the earlier models named Push, Play, and Pace, and have been rebranded as Executive, Excite, and Exclusive. Despite these changes, the 17.3 kWh battery pack that delivers a range of 230 km on a single charge remains unchanged. Additional features introduced in these variants include rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, ESC, hill-hold control, electrically foldable rearview mirrors that match the body color, and a creep mode for enhanced driving convenience.
Gaurav Gupta, the Deputy Managing Director of MG Motor India, stated that the launch of these new variants was influenced by customer feedback, market insights, and an in-depth industry analysis. The company’s goal with these updates is to raise awareness about electric vehicles and to contribute to the development of a strong EV ecosystem, making the use of electric vehicles more convenient and accessible for everyone.
The top-end model, the MG Comet Exclusive FC, now comes with an added cost of ₹56,000, which is justified by its feature-rich design. The Comet EV, powered by a 42 bhp electric motor that generates 110 Nm of torque, remains one of the smallest cars in its category. It competes directly with the Tata Tiago EV, which has an entry-level price of ₹6.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Executive variant.
This move by MG Motor India signifies a significant step towards enhancing the electric vehicle infrastructure and offering more value to customers seeking sustainable and efficient transportation solutions.
