Rivian and AT&T Establish Green Partnership to Create a Carbon-Neutral Vehicle Fleet

AT&T, a big company in telecommunications, and Rivian Automotive, a leader in electric vehicles, have just started working together. This partnership, announced today, is about AT&T buying Rivian’s advanced electric vehicles (EVs) for a new project. This project aims to reduce carbon emissions in transportation.

Starting in early 2024, AT&T will use Rivian’s Commercial Van and R1 vehicles in its large vehicle fleet. They want to see how these vehicles can improve safety, save money, and reduce AT&T’s carbon emissions.

AT&T sees adding Rivian’s electric vehicles as a key step in its plan to use more electric vehicles. The company wants to stop adding to carbon emissions by 2035. AT&T is known for making real changes in sustainability for itself and its clients. By using Rivian’s electric vehicles, AT&T plans to cut down emissions from its vehicles. They are also using smarter routes, mixing electric and hybrid vehicles, and having fewer vehicles overall. AT&T has already cut down on driving distance by 20% using artificial intelligence, which has reduced emissions by 51 million pounds.

Besides using Rivian’s electric vehicles, AT&T also has the exclusive rights to connect all Rivian vehicles in the U.S. and Canada. This partnership aims to make Rivian vehicles smarter, safer, and more connected. AT&T’s technology allows Rivian vehicles to get software updates wirelessly, constantly adding new features and improving the driving experience.

The Rivian Commercial Van, a key part of this partnership, is designed with safety, sustainability, and cost-saving in mind. It has advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking and 360-degree visibility, making it one of the safest vehicles on the road. Rivian’s own software also makes managing a fleet of these vehicles more efficient, helping to lower overall costs.

“We’re excited to purchase Rivian EVs for our fleet. This pilot is another important step in our ongoing efforts toward sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint and embracing a cleaner future for our operations. With advanced connectivity and a vision for a sustainable future, Rivian is setting the standard for the evolving demands of modern transportation.”

Hardmon Williams, Senior Vice President of AT&T Connected Solutions, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating.

“We couldn’t be happier to collaborate with AT&T as we work together to help cut emissions and protect our environment. Around a quarter of CO2 emitted in the transportation sector in the US comes from commercial vans, so it’s imperative we do all we can as soon as possible to help cut emissions. Our category defining vehicles offer some of the most advanced technology in the sector and are continually improved through over-the-air updates. We’re very much looking forward to expanding our relationship with AT&T to help them achieve their climate goals.”

Dagan Mishoulam, Vice President of Strategy & Fleet at Rivian, shared his excitement, saying.
