Sona Comstar Receives Second PLI Certification for E2W Hub Wheel Motor
Sona Comstar has achieved a milestone by obtaining certification for its second hub wheel motor designed for electric two-wheelers, thanks to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme.
On April 2, 2024, the Ministry of Heavy Industries granted this certification under the PLI Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Component Industry in India (PLI-Auto), as mentioned in their approval letter dated March 30, 2024, with reference number GARC/PLI/AUTO/2024-008. This certification enables the company to access the benefits and incentives offered by the scheme, as noted in a recent regulatory disclosure.
The company had submitted a total of seven applications for various products under the PLI scheme and has now successfully secured certification for two products, including their pioneering hub wheel drive motor tailored for electric two-wheelers. This achievement underscores the company’s robust in-house research and development efforts, which led to the introduction of these electric vehicle (EV) traction motors in 2020.
In 2021, the Indian government introduced an output-linked incentive scheme with an allocation of INR 25,938 crore over five years. This initiative aims to enhance local manufacturing of high-tech automotive products and stimulate investments across the automotive sector’s manufacturing chain. Although the incentives were initially set to be applied to sales from the fiscal year 2022-2023 to 2026-2027, the scheme’s duration has been extended to March 31, 2028.
Sona Comstar’s recent accomplishment reflects its commitment to innovation, technological progress, and its significant role in advancing India’s automotive industry.
