Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Inks MoU with Shell India to Expand EV Charging Infrastructure
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) has entered into a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) to jointly develop a network of public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India.
This initiative will capitalize on Shell’s extensive network of fuel stations and TPEM’s valuable insights gained from over 140,000 Tata EVs currently operating on Indian roads. The aim is to strategically locate chargers at spots that are popular among Tata EV users. Moreover, the partnership will focus on enhancing the charging experience for customers.
This collaboration is set to enhance the convenience for EV owners throughout India by potentially integrating user-friendly payment systems and establishing loyalty programs, thus adding significant value for TPEM’s customers. These efforts align with the broader goal of accelerating EV adoption in the nation.
Currently, TPEM holds a dominant position in the Indian EV market, commanding a 71% share in the electric passenger vehicle segment, supported by its diverse product lineup. The company has been a pioneer in promoting the EV ecosystem, from launching the first EV-exclusive store in Gurugram to collaborating with various charging point operators to expand the national charging infrastructure.
Shell’s EV Recharge stations not only provide ultra-fast and reliable charging solutions, boasting 98%-99% charger uptime, but they also offer additional amenities including retail options and fresh food and beverage services, creating a comprehensive and convenient customer experience.
“We are thrilled about our partnership with Shell, which aims to enhance the charging infrastructure critical for the widespread adoption of EVs in India. By leveraging TPEM’s in-depth knowledge of EV utilisation and Shell’s superior customer service, we are poised to transform EV charging habits nationwide, significantly boosting EV uptake.”
Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., commented on the partnership.
“Our commitment at Shell is to redefine the EV charging experience with seamless solutions that prioritize convenience, safety, and sustainability. By utilizing 100% certified renewable energy sources and providing reliable, ultra-fast charging options, we ensure a sustainable and efficient charging process for our customers. Our collaboration with TPEM is designed to foster extensive adoption of electric vehicles in India, enhancing our digital and customer-focused offerings.”
Sanjay Varkey, Director at Shell India Markets Private Limited, remarked.
Global case studies suggest that a robust and accessible charging infrastructure is essential for encouraging EV adoption. This strategic alliance between TPEM and SIMPL is expected to significantly propel India’s EV market growth, ushering in a new era of electric mobility in the country.
