On January 22, 2024, Ipower Batteries Pvt Ltd, a pioneering Indian company, announced a significant achievement in battery technology. They have become the first in India to successfully introduce a graphene-based lead acid batteries. This innovation marks a major milestone in lead-acid battery technology within the country.

The company’s new battery variants have undergone rigorous testing by ICAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology) for compliance with AIS0156 standards. As a result, they have received the Type Approval Certificate (TAC), recognizing the innovative nature of their Graphene series lead-acid technology.

“This is more than just a milestone for us; it’s a game-changer for the Indian EV industry. As we are all aware, the EV sector has been heavily reliant on costly lithium batteries, with a significant dependency on imports for cells. Our achievement heralds a new era where we can offer a more economical alternative with our 32Ah/C20 lead-acid batteries, weighing just 7.2 Kg.”

Elated over the announcement, Mr Vikas Aggarwal, Founder and MD Ipower Batteries said.

This breakthrough is expected to significantly reduce costs and improve the accessibility of batteries for EV use. It aligns with India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in alternative energy sources and is poised to boost the growth of the EV industry in the country. These batteries are specifically designed for electric two-wheelers.
