In a significant boost to India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Bengaluru-based battery tech startup Volt14 has raised $1.87 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The round was led by Blume Ventures with participation from Beyond Next Ventures, Spectrum Impact, Supermorpheus, and existing backer Cocoon Capital.

This fresh funding takes Volt14’s total capital raised to $4.02 million, reinforcing the startup’s mission to commercialize advanced silicon-rich anode materials—a game-changing technology for lithium-ion batteries used in EVs and consumer electronics.

Founded in 2019 by Animesh Kumar Jha, a materials scientist and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree, Volt14 has developed a proprietary anode platform that significantly boosts battery energy density. The breakthrough promises longer range for electric vehicles and extended device life for consumer tech, without requiring a complete overhaul of existing battery manufacturing infrastructure.

Speaking on the development, Jha said, “Electrification is an irreversible trend. Our technology delivers substantial improvements in energy density, integrates with current cell production setups, and scales efficiently—positioning us to make a real impact on the future of mobility and energy.”

The startup plans to utilize the funds to scale its material manufacturing and expand its team as it accelerates toward commercial deployment.

The announcement comes at a time when the global lithium-ion battery market is projected to cross $300 billion by 2034, driven by surging demand for EVs and renewable energy storage. According to the International Energy Agency, one in five cars sold worldwide in 2023 was electric, with the EV fleet expected to grow twelvefold by 2035.

Arpit Agarwal, Partner at Blume Ventures, shared:

“Volt14 is reimagining the future of battery technology. Their silicon anode innovation is a game-changer, and with Animesh and Puneet at the helm, we see global potential.”

Jay Krishnan, Partner at Beyond Next Ventures, added:

“Volt14’s disruptive vision aligns with our mission to support sustainability-driven pioneers. Battery innovation is central to a cleaner planet.”

As India pushes ahead with its electrification goals, deep-tech startups like Volt14 are poised to play a crucial role in shaping the nation’s battery innovation landscape.
