Battery Smart Collaborates with Bharatsure to Offer Insurance Protection to Drivers and Charging Station Operators
Battery Smart, India’s leading battery swapping network for electric two and three-wheelers, recently teamed up with Bharatsure, a top Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Insurtech firm, to offer health and accidental insurance to over 40,000 drivers and station partners in its network.
This insurance program allows beneficiaries to access emergency services, medical hospitalization, and day-care treatments, based on set eligibility criteria. Additionally, it includes coverage for accidental outpatient services or lump-sum payouts in events like accidental deaths, hospitalization, and cases of total or partial permanent disablement.
As the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) surges in India, especially in the two and three-wheeler sector—accounting for approximately 95% of the EV market—the number of gig workers and delivery personnel has significantly increased. To enhance the safety of its community, Battery Smart has implemented various safety initiatives, including a 24×7 support hotline, in-app issue reporting, practical battery management training sessions, and complimentary EV health assessments to preemptively address safety concerns and mitigate accident risks.
“We are thrilled to design bespoke insurance solutions that enhance the financial and healthcare security for the expanding network of EV drivers and partners at Battery Smart. Our partnership underlines our commitment to bolstering safety measures for this community.”
During the announcement, Anuj Parekh, Co-founder and CEO of Bharatsure, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating.
“This collaboration with Bharatsure is crucial for providing our drivers and partners with comprehensive insurance coverage, which not only promotes well-being but also bolsters confidence in transitioning to electric mobility.”
Ankur Jhavery, VP of Business at Battery Smart, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, saying.
This partnership underscores a significant advancement in promoting safety within the gig economy and propels the adoption of electric mobility in India. In a landmark initiative, Battery Smart also partnered with Zomato to host an ‘EV Mela’ in Delhi in 2023, aiming to demonstrate the benefits of EVs and encourage their adoption.
The gig economy in India, which employs approximately 10-15 million individuals, is seeing a growing focus from various state governments on providing accident, health insurance, and retirement benefits to gig workers. This partnership between Battery Smart and Bharatsure is setting new industry standards for protecting the well-being and safety of users in the rapidly evolving electric mobility landscape.
