BYD Teams Up with Raízen Power to Boost Green Electric Transport in Brazil

BYD, a leading electric vehicle maker, and Raízen Power, part of Raízen known for renewable energy, are teaming up to make electric cars more popular in Brazil. They plan to set up electric car charging stations in eight big cities in Brazil over the next three years. This big news was shared at an event in Shenzhen, China, with important people from BYD, Raízen Power, and Shell there.

Their main goal is to make more places available for electric car owners to charge their cars in big cities. These charging stations will use clean, renewable energy and will be known as Shell Recharge hubs. Starting in 2024, they will build these hubs in cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, adding 600 new charging points and increasing power for electric car charging by 18 MW.

People who drive BYD cars and use these charging stations will get good deals on energy costs and other services. They also plan to work with Tupinambá, a digital platform for electric vehicle owners, to make the charging experience better.

Raízen Power wants to be a big player in Brazil’s electric mobility scene, aiming to take up about 25% of the market. They also want to grow in the energy market and keep working on projects that provide clean energy to homes, businesses, and factories.

Ricardo Mussa, the boss of Raízen, is excited about the partnership. He said “We want to democratize access to electric mobility and renewable energy, making these solutions more accessible, affordable, and attractive to the market. With the partnership between Raízen Power and BYD, we will be closer to our customers and participate in the entire consumer journey with the Shell Recharge network, through a complete and integrated portfolio that addresses the global pursuit of a more sustainable future.”

In addition to improving consumer convenience, BYD drivers will receive discounts at the charging hubs in the eight cities. Raízen, a licensee of the Shell brand, operates a vast network of nearly eight thousand mobility sites across Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, serving millions of consumers every day. BYD views this partnership as strategically significant for the development and deployment of its charging equipment and battery solutions.

“We believe it is crucial to have a robust and widely distributed charging infrastructure. As we embark on our ambitious sales expansion plan, investing in charging infrastructure is essential. This not only ensures convenience for our customers but also accelerates the transition to a sustainable and electrified future, driving the growth of clean energy transportation.”

said Stella Li, Executive Vice President of BYD and CEO of BYD Americas.

“No single company can drive forward the electric mobility transition alone; instead, it will require unprecedented collaboration between industry, government, and customers. This latest venture is a great example of how we are achieving that with the help of our ongoing partners, Raízen and BYD. Our relationship with BYD, for example, started in China and Europe and together we are now looking forward to playing our part in the growth of EV adoption in Brazil, making charging EVs as convenient, and enjoyable as possible.”

Shell’s Global Executive Vice President for Mobility, István Kapitány, emphasized the value of industry cooperation in advancing the shift to electric vehicles, saying.

As one of the world’s biggest networks of electric vehicle chargers, Shell is dedicated to growing its infrastructure in order to facilitate the increasing number of people using electric vehicles. By 2025, the company hopes to have about 70,000 public charging stations, and it will continue to work toward making EV charging as easy and fun as possible.

The alliance between BYD, Raízen Power, and Shell promises a cleaner and more optimistic future for transportation in the area and is a major step toward advancing sustainable electric mobility in Brazil.
