Nagpur, India – In a landmark stride towards India’s clean mobility revolution, VNIT Nagpur, in collaboration with C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram, has successfully developed the country’s first fully indigenous wireless EV charger — a technology that could redefine how Indians power their electric vehicles.

Backed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) under the prestigious National Mission on Power Electronics Technology (NaMPET), this innovation is not just a leap in convenience but a bold push for Atmanirbhar Bharat in the EV space.

⚡ Fast, Efficient & Wireless: Here’s What You Need to Know

The newly developed 1.5 kW wireless charger is capable of charging up to 90% of a 4.8 kWh battery in just three hours, all without any physical cable connection.

  • Efficiency: 89.4% contactless power transfer
  • Power Source: 230V, 50Hz AC standard Indian supply
  • Separation Range: Works seamlessly even at 12.5 cm coil distance
  • Tech Core: Powered by high-frequency Silicon Carbide MOSFETs operating at 88 kHz
  • Safety Features: Built-in protection against short circuits and open circuits

This is not just a charger — it’s a symbol of Indian innovation, offering a more convenient and futuristic EV experience for millions.

📣 MeitY & Industry Leaders React

S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, called this development a “landmark achievement” for India’s growing EV ecosystem.

“Such indigenous innovations are crucial to making EV adoption more accessible across India and advancing the goals of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he stated at the technology transfer event held at Electronics Niketan, New Delhi.

Uday Narang, Founder of Omega Seiki Pvt. Ltd., hailed the project as a “transformative milestone”, emphasizing how this wireless technology could lead to wider EV adoption, especially in urban environments where infrastructure is a challenge.

🏭 Ready for Market: Technology Licensed for Commercial Rollout

The wireless charger has officially been licensed to Global Business Solution Pvt. Ltd. for mass production — bringing this advanced, cable-free charging solution closer to Indian consumers and fleets.

With over 4.5 million EVs on Indian roads, this homegrown solution will help address charging bottlenecks and lay the foundation for smarter, cleaner, and more efficient EV infrastructure.

We see this as a pivotal step toward future-ready mobility. Wireless charging removes yet another barrier to EV adoption — no more cables, no more plug hassles, just seamless energy transfer.

As India builds out its EV backbone, this kind of innovation is exactly what we need — designed for Indian conditions, scalable, and globally competitive.
