According to industry reports, at least five major electric and hybrid SUV models many featuring advanced battery options, novel designs, and cutting-edge features are expected to arrive soon. These launches come at a time when India’s EV and hybrid ecosystem is rapidly expanding, supported by policy incentives and expanding charging infrastructure.
1. JSW’s Jetour T2 Hybrid SUV: A New Contender on the Horizon
The Jetour T2 set to be the first SUV from JSW Motors Ltd. tops the list of upcoming launches. Created through a partnership with China’s Chery Automobile, this large SUV will be assembled locally in Maharashtra once manufacturing operations begin.
As a plug-in hybrid SUV, the Jetour T2 will combine a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor and a substantial battery pack, offering an estimated electric range of around 100 km on battery power alone. Its bold, boxy design echoes iconic off-road machines, and its size is expected to be larger than established rivals like the Tata Safari.
With flexible powertrain options and strong hybrid capability, the Jetour T2 is poised to appeal to buyers looking for both efficiency and all-rounded performance in a flagship SUV.
2. Chery iCar V23: Electric SUV With Retro-Modern Design
Following the Jetour hybrid, JSW MG Motor India is also preparing to launch the Chery iCar V23, an all-electric SUV recently spotted testing on Indian roads.
The iCar V23 stands out with its retro-modern styling cues including round headlights, flared wheel arches, and a rugged stance that channels classic off-road aesthetics. Though specific local specifications are yet to be confirmed, international versions come with battery options ranging from around 60 kWh to 82 kWh, providing different range and performance profiles.
With an expected range approaching 430 km in higher-capacity variants and multiple drivetrain options, the iCar V23 aims to balance practicality with futuristic design and performance.
3. MG S5 EV: Modern EV With High-Tech Features
Under the MG Motor umbrella (in partnership with JSW), the MG S5 EV is slated to be a direct successor to the popular MG ZS EV.
This upcoming electric SUV is anticipated to sport a more premium and refined exterior, complete with LED lighting clusters, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a sleek silhouette. Its interior is expected to feature high-tech amenities such as a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected smartphone integration, and more.
The S5 EV will likely offer 49 kWh and 64 kWh battery pack options enabling roughly 500 km of range on a single charge depending on the configuration.
4. MG 520 Plug-in Hybrid: Bridging EV & ICE Performance
MG is also preparing to introduce a plug-in hybrid SUV codenamed the MG 520, derived from the Chinese Wuling Starlight 560.
This hybrid model will pair a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack and an electric motor, producing a combined output of around 197 hp and 230 Nm of torque positioning it as a strong competitor in the hybrid SUV segment.
Targeted at buyers seeking fuel efficiency without sacrificing power, the MG 520 may also challenge traditional ICE SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700 with its electrified performance.
5. MG Eksion EV: Full-Electric Variant With Extended Range
Rounding out the list is a probable all-electric version of the MG 520 expected to be marketed as the MG Eksion EV.
Featuring a 56.7 kWh battery and electric powertrain, the Eksion EV is expected to deliver an estimated 500 km driving range catering to customers looking for a pure electric SUV experience with practicality for daily use and longer journeys.
SUV Electrification: A New Era for India
Together, these five upcoming SUVs reflect a broader trend toward electrification and hybridisation in India’s auto industry. As battery technology improves and customer demand for cleaner vehicles grows, manufacturers are increasingly prioritising electric and hybrid offerings each blending performance, design, and efficiency to meet evolving consumer needs.
With India’s EV and hybrid market projected to expand rapidly over the next decade, these new SUVs could play a significant role in accelerating adoption and reshaping the nation’s driving landscape in 2026 and beyond.
