Jakson Green E-Mobility has secured a tender to deploy 220 electric buses across three cities in Gujarat under the Government of India’s PM-eBus Sewa Programme. The 12-year contract includes bus procurement, deployment, operations, maintenance and the development of supporting charging infrastructure.
The order marks a significant milestone for Jakson Green E-Mobility, which has secured the project within its first year of operations in India’s electric mobility sector. The initiative is expected to strengthen the adoption of electric public transport while supporting efforts to reduce emissions from urban mobility.
220 Electric Buses for Three Gujarat Cities
Under the project, Jakson Green E-Mobility will deploy electric buses in Vadodara, Gandhidham and Navsari. The fleet allocation includes:
- Vadodara: 120 electric buses
- Gandhidham: 80 electric buses
- Navsari: 20 electric buses
The deployment will expand the availability of electric public transport across the three cities. The buses are expected to provide commuters with an alternative to conventional diesel-powered public transport, helping improve the environmental performance of urban transportation.
The project will use 9-metre, air-conditioned electric buses designed for public transportation services. Their deployment is intended to support passenger comfort, operational efficiency and reliable city bus services.
12-Year Contract Covers Charging Infrastructure
The project will operate under a 12-year Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. Under this arrangement, Jakson Green E-Mobility will be responsible for procuring the buses, deploying them, operating the fleet and maintaining the vehicles throughout the contract period.
The company’s responsibilities will also include developing, operating and maintaining the associated electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Integrating charging facilities with fleet operations is expected to help support daily bus schedules and improve vehicle availability.
The long-term contract places both vehicle operations and supporting infrastructure under the company’s responsibility. This integrated approach is intended to ensure that the buses and charging facilities work together to meet public transportation requirements.
PM-eBus Sewa Programme Supports Electric Public Transport
The Gujarat project falls under the Centre’s PM-eBus Sewa Programme, which aims to promote electric bus services and strengthen sustainable urban mobility in India.
Electric buses produce zero tailpipe emissions during operation, helping reduce direct pollution from public transport. Their wider adoption can also contribute to cleaner urban environments and support India’s transition towards lower-emission transportation.
However, the effectiveness of electric bus services will depend on factors such as charging infrastructure availability, fleet utilisation, maintenance quality and reliable daily operations.
Strengthening India’s Electric Bus Ecosystem
The tender win represents an early expansion milestone for Jakson Green E-Mobility in India’s electric bus and commercial vehicle segment. The company focuses on an integrated mobility model covering vehicle deployment, charging infrastructure, fleet operations and lifecycle maintenance.
By combining these services under a long-term contract, the company aims to support dependable electric public transport operations across the three Gujarat cities.
The deployment of 220 electric buses is expected to contribute to the growth of electric mobility in Gujarat while strengthening the state’s public transportation network. The project also highlights the growing role of private operators in developing and managing electric bus fleets under government-backed initiatives.
As India continues to expand its electric public transport infrastructure, projects such as this will be important in increasing the use of electric buses, improving urban mobility and supporting the country’s broader clean transportation objectives.
