Paradeep Parivahan Limited (PPL) has secured a 10-year contract with the JSW Group to deploy and operate 100 electric trucks for industrial cargo transportation between Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The agreement marks a significant step towards expanding electric mobility in India’s heavy-duty commercial transportation sector.

The deployment will support the movement of clinker and slag between Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijayanagar in Karnataka. The designated route covers approximately 330 kilometres one way and will handle an estimated 1.25 lakh metric tonnes of cargo every month. JSW Greentech Limited will supply the electric trucks for the planned operations.

The long-term agreement strengthens Paradeep Parivahan’s position in industrial logistics while supporting the transition towards cleaner freight transportation. By introducing electric heavy-duty trucks into regular bulk cargo operations, the company aims to integrate sustainable mobility into large-scale industrial supply chains.

Clinker, an essential material used in cement manufacturing, and slag, an industrial by-product used in various construction applications, require consistent transportation between industrial locations. The electric fleet is intended to meet these requirements through dedicated transportation operations along the Nandyal–Vijayanagar corridor.

The agreement also reflects the growing interest in deploying electric trucks for predictable, high-volume freight routes. Such operations offer opportunities to integrate vehicle utilisation, charging schedules and fleet management into established logistics systems.

The contract forms part of Paradeep Parivahan’s broader strategy to expand its transportation business and strengthen its green mobility capabilities. According to the company, its total transportation fleet is expected to increase approximately threefold compared with the previous year, supported by this and other orders.

The addition of 100 electric trucks will expand the company’s capacity for dedicated fleet operations, bulk material transportation and technology-enabled logistics management. The 10-year arrangement also provides a long-term framework for serving JSW Group’s industrial transportation requirements.

The financial value of the contract has not been disclosed. The company cited confidentiality obligations under the agreement for withholding commercial details.

The planned electric truck deployment is estimated to replace approximately 47.5 lakh litres of diesel annually and prevent around 14,256 tonnes of direct carbon dioxide emissions each year.

These estimates highlight the potential environmental benefits of electrifying heavy-duty transportation, particularly on established industrial routes with substantial cargo volumes. However, actual diesel savings and emissions reductions will depend on vehicle utilisation, operating conditions and the assumptions used in the company’s calculations.

For India’s commercial vehicle industry, the project demonstrates how electric trucks could contribute to reducing dependence on diesel in industrial logistics while supporting corporate sustainability objectives.

Paradeep Parivahan’s agreement with JSW Group represents a significant development in the adoption of electric heavy-duty vehicles for industrial freight movement. The combination of a 100-truck fleet, a decade-long contract and substantial monthly cargo requirements provides a large-scale application for electric transportation.

As Indian businesses increasingly explore cleaner logistics solutions, projects of this scale could help build operational experience in electric trucking and encourage wider adoption across suitable freight corridors.

The planned deployment also reinforces the importance of integrating electric vehicles into industrial supply chains to support more sustainable transportation and India’s broader transition towards green mobility.
