MHI’s EV Taskforce Initiates Battery Swapping Policy Consultation In India
In a pivotal development for India’s electric vehicle landscape, the Ministry of Heavy Industries recently convened the first stakeholder consultation under the auspices of the Electric Vehicle Taskforce. This meeting aimed to carve out a policy and regulatory roadmap for battery-swapping technology.
The session was chaired by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, IPS, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Heavy Industries, and saw participation from Battery Swap Operators (BSOs), fleet operators, and representatives from various ministries. Dr. Himani Jain, Senior Program Lead at the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW), and Mr. Dilip Chenoy from the India Battery Swapping Association guided the discussions.
The agenda focused on exploring how battery-swapping technology could fast-track the adoption of electric vehicles in India. Participants tackled key challenges like infrastructure development, operational hurdles, and policy frameworks needed for the broad adoption of battery swapping.
This collaborative forum also included significant contributions from diverse sectors, creating a rich dialogue to frame strong policies that support the scalability of battery-swapping in India.
Aligned with the national Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem vision and the #ViksitBharat initiative, this meeting underscores India’s commitment to sustainable transportation. The Ministry of Heavy Industries, collaborating with major industry bodies like FICCI, SIAM, and the Confederation of Indian Industry, is dedicated to integrating actionable insights from these discussions to drive widespread EV adoption across the nation.
