Musashi Auto Parts India and Bhago Mobility Solutions have signed a Letter of Intent for the supply of electric powertrain systems for Bhago Mobility’s upcoming Bhim electric three-wheeler platform, adding another localisation-focused partnership to India’s rapidly electrifying three-wheeler market.
Under the Musashi Bhago Mobility partnership, Musashi will supply its integrated three-wheeler e-Axle for the fixed-battery version of the Bhago Bhim passenger vehicle. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the electric drive systems manufactured at Musashi’s Bengaluru facility.
The partnership is significant because it brings together a global drivetrain component manufacturer and an Indian mobility operator that is now developing its own connected electric vehicle platform.
Musashi e-Axle Will Power Fixed-Battery Bhim
Musashi’s e-Axle combines key electric drivetrain components into an integrated drive unit rather than sourcing and packaging them independently.
The current Letter of Intent specifically covers the fixed-battery configuration of the Bhago Bhim. Bhago is also developing a battery-swapping variant, but that version is not included in the present supply arrangement.
Both companies have, however, indicated that the relationship could expand further.
Future collaboration may include cargo versions of the Bhim platform and battery-swapping configurations, potentially giving Musashi a larger role across Bhago’s three-wheeler product architecture.
For Musashi, the agreement also extends its EV powertrain push beyond electric two-wheelers. The company already markets locally manufactured e-Axle technology for two- and three-wheeler applications and has previously secured EV powertrain supply programmes with other Indian manufacturers.
Bhago Bhim Is Being Built as an IoT-Native EV
The Bhim is being developed around an IoT-native architecture rather than positioning connectivity as an add-on feature.
Its integrated telematics system is intended to support remote diagnostics, maintenance scheduling and over-the-air software updates. Bhago is targeting both individual driver-owners and commercial fleet operators in passenger and last-mile mobility applications.
That approach reflects a broader shift in commercial EVs.
For fleet operators, the drivetrain is only one part of the operating equation. Vehicle health data, predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics can directly affect uptime and operating cost—particularly when vehicles are being used commercially for long hours each day.
Bhago already operates an EV fleet platform across Delhi NCR and Bengaluru and has previously partnered with Honda companies around subscription-based electric mobility and battery-swapping services for urban mobility workers.
Electric Three-Wheelers Are Already a Mainstream Segment
The timing of the partnership is notable because electric three-wheelers are no longer a small experimental segment in India.
EVs represented more than 60% of three-wheeler retail sales in 2025, according to figures cited by the companies. More recently, electric vehicles accounted for 65.3% of India’s three-wheeler retail market in August 2026, showing how far electrification has already progressed in this category.
That means suppliers are increasingly competing not just for pilot programmes, but for production-scale powertrain contracts.
