Suzuki has taken a significant step in its electric vehicle (EV) journey by unveiling the Vitara EV, the production version of the eVX concept first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. Set to make its Indian debut at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025, followed by an expected launch in March 2025, the Vitara EV aims to solidify Suzuki’s presence in the competitive EV market. Built on the newly developed HEARTECT-e platform, the Vitara EV features advanced engineering co-developed with Toyota and Daihatsu.

The SUV will be offered with two battery options, ensuring flexibility for different driving needs, with ranges of up to 400km on a single charge. As Suzuki’s first electric SUV for India, it combines modern design, innovative features, and robust performance, making it a strong contender in the growing Indian EV market. It will compete against the likes of Kia EV3 and Skoda Elroq while focusing on affordability through local manufacturing.

The Suzuki Vitara EV is built on the advanced HEARTECT-e platform, an EV-only architecture developed in collaboration with Toyota and Daihatsu. This platform is designed to accommodate different powertrains while optimizing performance, safety, and efficiency. The Vitara EV will be available in three main configurations, with two battery size options catering to diverse customer needs. The entry-level variant is powered by a 49kWh battery pack, offering a respectable range of 322km. It features a front-mounted motor delivering 142bhp and 189Nm of torque, making it a practical option for city driving and daily commutes.

The mid-spec variant features a larger 61kWh battery, extending the range to an impressive 400km. This model is equipped with a more powerful 172bhp motor, ensuring a balance of performance and efficiency. The top-spec variant raises the stakes with dual motors powered by the 61kWh battery, delivering all-wheel drive capabilities. With a combined output of 181bhp and 300Nm of torque, this version is ideal for drivers seeking superior performance and off-road readiness. Additionally, the SUV includes Suzuki’s AllGrip-e system, enhancing traction in various conditions. Paired with three drive modes—Normal, Eco, and Sport—the Vitara EV caters to a wide range of driving preferences and scenarios, from urban commutes to adventurous terrain exploration.

Suzuki has prioritized space, comfort, and technology in the Vitara EV’s design, making it a practical and attractive option for modern families. The SUV measures 4,275mm in length, with a wheelbase of 2,700mm—200mm longer than its global ICE counterpart, offering enhanced cabin space. This thoughtful design ensures a more spacious and comfortable interior for passengers. The Vitara EV is also wider and taller than its sibling model, reinforcing its commanding road presence and practicality.

Inside, the electric SUV is equipped with a host of cutting-edge features aimed at improving user convenience and driving experience. It comes with a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display that provides real-time vehicle information and a 10.1-inch central touchscreen that serves as the hub for infotainment and connectivity options. The inclusion of climate control, a rotary gear selector, and a wireless charging pad adds to the premium feel of the cabin. Suzuki has also ensured practicality with a boot capacity of 306 liters, which can be expanded further by folding the rear seats, making the Vitara EV ideal for families and long trips. These thoughtful touches highlight Suzuki’s focus on blending modern technology with everyday usability, ensuring the Vitara EV appeals to a broad audience.
