Modi Says India’s Advanced Mobility Tech Can Power Joint EV & CNG Solutions in Collaboration with Russia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spotlighted India’s advancements in electric vehicles (EVs), two-wheelers, and CNG mobility solutions as pivotal areas to strengthen cooperation with Russia. Speaking at the India–Russia Business Forum, Modi said India’s growing mobility ecosystem—marked by affordability, efficiency, and global competitiveness—offers immense potential for joint development.

Modi highlighted that India’s robust EV manufacturing capabilities, cutting-edge two-wheeler production, and expanding CNG mobility technologies can significantly contribute to collaborative mobility solutions. Such partnerships, he added, could “not only meet our needs but also global requirements.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin echoed these sentiments, stressing the vast and “multifaceted opportunities” within the bilateral economic relationship. He called for eliminating customs and administrative hurdles that continue to restrict smooth trade between the two nations.

Putin noted that rapid finalisation of a preferential trade agreement between India and the Eurasian Economic Union would provide a substantial boost to trade flows. Modi further stated that both sides are leveraging strategic routes such as the International North–South Transport Corridor, the Northern Sea Route, and the emerging Chennai–Vladivostok Corridor. He also emphasised the role of digital systems in creating “virtual trade corridors” to streamline cargo movement and reduce paperwork.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to achieving $100 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, driven by expanding cooperation across key sectors, including the fast-growing mobility and EV ecosystem.

Author’s Comment:

India’s sharpened focus on EVs, two-wheelers, and CNG mobility in its partnership with Russia signals a bold push toward cleaner, tech-driven transportation. The leaders’ shared enthusiasm for reducing trade barriers and accelerating connectivity corridors underscores a fast-evolving economic dynamic.
