Amara Raja’s CMD Discusses the Giga Corridor Project with Telangana Chief Minister

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared that the Telangana government will support the Amara Raja group’s establishment of a Giga factory for advanced chemistry cells and a battery pack assembly (Giga Corridor Project) unit in Mahbubnagar district.

According to an official release, the Amara Raja team met with the chief minister here to discuss their historic Giga Corridor project and ePositive Energy Labs in Telangana.

“Amara Raja is a key partner in Telangana’s growth story and (we) assured the necessary support towards the operationalisation of the Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Gigafactory, Pack Assembly and ePositive Energy Labs in Telangana. Telangana is committed towards clean energy and advanced storage technologies like ACCs are a priority sector for the state, the release quoted Reddy as saying.

Chief Minister Reddy and Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (formerly Amara Raja Batteries), met to discuss Amara Raja’s ongoing projects in Telangana and to explore potential future areas of collaboration between the state and the company.

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (ARE&M) is one of the leading energy storage and mobility enterprises in India, as well as one of the largest manufacturers of batteries for both industrial and automotive applications.

Amara Raja is establishing the Giga Corridor as part of its foray into advanced energy storage technologies to address the expanding electric mobility and energy storage markets.

With a capital investment of Rs 9,500 crore, the Giga Corridor would comprise one of India’s largest lithium-ion Giga Factories for Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacture and Battery Pack assembly in Mahbubnagar, as well as an R&D centre called E-Positive Energy Labs in Shamshabad, which is close by.

“We appreciate the government’s continued support towards quick execution of our landmark Giga Corridor project. Amara Raja is set to expand exponentially and we hope the Government of Telangana continues to support industries to establish the state as a major force in the growing EV and New Energy sector.” The project has the potential to create 4,500 direct jobs and almost as many indirect jobs.

Galla stated

Attending the meeting were A Santhi Kumari, the Chief Secretary, Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary (Industries), and Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, the Special Secretary.
