In a significant boost to India’s defense technology sector, Bengaluru-based EV startup Pravaig Dynamics has completed military trials for its VEER Electric Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (E-TATV) and secured the prestigious iDEX Award from the Ministry of Defence. This recognition marks a significant step toward India’s strategic autonomy in defense mobility.

VEER E-TATV: Revolutionizing Tactical Defense EVs

The VEER E-TATV is the world’s first operational electric vehicle designed specifically for tactical defense applications. It is built for forward patrolling, reconnaissance, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.

Pravaig Dynamics announced the achievement on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“In a major step towards strategic autonomy, Pravaig has won the prestigious iDEX Award for its VEER E-TATV—a highly stealthy, next-generation vehicle designed for critical defense operations.”

iDEX Award: A Leap Toward Indigenous Defense Innovation

The iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) Award was presented to Pravaig’s subsidiary, Atima Corporation, by the Defence Innovation Organisation (DIO) under the Department of Defence.

  • The iDEX initiative, launched in May 2021, aims to foster innovation and technological advancement in India’s defense sector.
  • Winning this award is a key step toward VEER’s potential induction into the Indian Defence Services.
  • The recognition underscores India’s push for indigenous defense technology and reduced reliance on foreign imports.

Strategic Autonomy & Military-Grade Engineering

Pravaig emphasized how dependence on foreign defense technologies has been a vulnerability for many nations, including India. The startup pointed to incidents like GPS denial by the US during the Kargil War, underscoring the need for indigenous defense technologies.

  • VEER is fully designed and built in India, ensuring 100% sovereignty over its technology and data.
  • It features class-leading stealth capabilities, is military-grade, and is fully field-repairable.
  • Tested in extreme terrains and altitudes, VEER is built for rugged military operations.

Pravaig’s Expanding Role in EV & Defense Innovation

Beyond defense applications, Pravaig is also a leader in high-precision EV battery manufacturing, further contributing to India’s growing electric mobility ecosystem. With its focus on cutting-edge defense EV technology, Pravaig is leapfrogging India’s capabilities in military and electric vehicle innovation. The VEER E-TATV’s successful trials and iDEX recognition position it as a key asset in India’s defense modernization efforts.
