German automotive supplier MAHLE India has been presented with the “Special Appreciation Award” by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) for its pioneering Intelligent Thermal Management System (ITMS), designed specifically for Mahindra’s battery electric vehicles (BEVs) like the XUV 9e and BE 6.

The ITMS is a tailor-made solution addressing the unique regional requirements of India’s EV market. The system intelligently optimizes thermal and airflow management to regulate the vehicle’s interior climate, battery temperature, and cooling airflow. By reducing the electric compressor’s power consumption by 15 to 20 percent, the technology significantly enhances energy efficiency without sacrificing passenger comfort.

India is emerging as a vital market for MAHLE, which manufactures several critical EV components locally. With the Indian electric vehicle segment, including electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, entering a rapid growth phase, MAHLE aims to be at the forefront of this transformation. Industry estimates suggest annual EV registrations could hit 5.9 million units by 2030.

Expressing pride in the achievement, Jumana Al-Sibai, Member of the MAHLE Group Management Board for Thermal and Fluid Systems, said, “We are honored by M&M’s recognition of our team’s dedication and innovative solutions in supporting their newly launched battery electric vehicles. This award underscores MAHLE’s ongoing commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology to our customers.”

The ITMS entered series production at the end of 2024, following two years of intensive development. Featuring intelligent control algorithms, fault detection, and optimal temperature regulation, the system incorporates locally manufactured components such as HVAC modules, cooling units, controllers, and coolant pumps.

MAHLE’s presence in India spans over six decades, with 14 operational locations including 11 plants and one technology center, employing approximately 4,400 people. The company views India as a key growth market and continues to invest in innovations that support the country’s electric mobility goals.
