In a strong push towards sustainable urban mobility, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday announced that the Delhi government will offer subsidies to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as part of its upcoming EV policy.

Addressing the valedictory session of Aironomics 2025, Gupta highlighted the government’s multi-pronged approach to tackling air pollution and emphasized the pivotal role electric vehicles would play in achieving a cleaner, greener capital.

“Transforming all vehicles, including private ones, into electric vehicles is our big vision. To accelerate this shift, we will urge citizens to adopt EVs and support them through targeted subsidies,” Gupta said at the event.

✅ Holistic Measures to Combat Air Pollution

The Chief Minister also unveiled a broader set of strategies aimed at year-round pollution control. As part of these efforts, 1,000 water sprinklers will be deployed to suppress dust on roads throughout the year, operating during early morning and late night hours to avoid traffic disruptions.

In addition, integrated road-cleaning machines—capable of mechanical sweeping, water sprinkling, and litter collection—will be stationed across all 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

“Our focus is on sustained, city-wide action. We urge residents to join the mission by avoiding biomass burning, supporting afforestation, and choosing electric vehicles,” Gupta added.

✅ Expert Voices Call for Unified Action

The session also featured insights from Bhupinder Bhalla, former Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, who stressed the importance of coordination between the Centre and the Delhi government for effective pollution control.

“There’s now greater synergy across governments and agencies. With aligned agendas and better cooperation, implementation will be faster and more impactful,” Bhalla said during a panel titled ‘Turning the Tide: Delhi’s Moment to Lead on Clean Air’.

Sanjiv Kumar, Chairman of the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), called for more cost-effective, real-time pollution monitoring solutions. “The goal is to improve coverage and pinpoint pollution hotspots to enable faster interventions,” he noted.

✅ Scaling Innovation for Clean Air

The summit also saw the launch of Phase 2 of the Air Quality Action Forum (AQAF), jointly spearheaded by the Paytm Foundation and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The initiative will support urban centers and innovators with tools, data, and financing models to implement and scale localized clean air technologies.

Hosted by the Bharat Climate Forum (BCF) in collaboration with Dalberg Advisors and the Council for International Economic Understanding (CIEU), Aironomics 2025 served as a collaborative platform to drive policy, innovation, and action on urban air quality.

With Delhi preparing for a new wave of EV adoption, backed by financial incentives and comprehensive environmental management, the capital is setting the pace for urban sustainability in India.
