Bharat Charge Alliance aims to establish more than 5,000 interoperable public charging stations
The goal of the industry-led Bharat Charge Alliance (BCA) is to establish a consistent, easily accessible, and dependable infrastructure for charging light-duty electric vehicles (LEVs) throughout the nation. The Alliance wants to guarantee that all EV owners, regardless of the brand or type of their car, can easily charge their vehicles at any network of stations by fostering interoperability.
The Bharat Charge Alliance is the result of the compromise reached by the Alliance members Log9, Trinity Cleantech, Altigreen, ETO Motors, Pulse Energy, ChargeZone with its mobility platform Billion Electric & EVnnovator, and Tork Motors joining together. The partnership intends to create a nationwide network of compatible charging stations that will revolutionize the EV market, especially for two- and three-wheelers.
The Bharat Charge Alliance is pleased to announce the partnership between Trinity Cleantech, a leader in sustainable energy solutions, and Log9 Materials, a battery technology business. As per the terms of this arrangement, Trinity intends to establish 2,000 public charging stations throughout India by the end of the following fiscal year under the Thunder+ brand.
The goal of this partnership is to support the growing demand for EVs while also supporting India’s sustainability goals by promoting Type 6 (IS 17017-2-6) DC fast chargers and creating an interoperable charging network under the LEV DC (IS 17017-25 adopted) standard of the BCA. The Unified Energy Interface (UEI)-based payment mechanism is powered by the Beckn protocol.
The Indian government’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) recently published a whitepaper titled “Evolution: Catalysing Technology-Led Ecosystem for e-Mobility: Contexts, Challenges, and Imperatives” in honor of National Science Day (February 28). This article addresses IS 17017-25 and UEI adoption and advocates collaboration for interoperable charging infrastructure.
e3W (L5) OEMs with larger battery packs, such as Altigreen, ETO Motors, and Surja Automotive, are also seeing an increase in the use of Type 6 connectors, which provide a continuous charging current of up to 125A. Additionally, the connector is approved worldwide and is being produced locally by the nation’s leading connector manufacturers, which lowers the cost.
The IS 17017-2-6 connector and IS 17017-25 protocol have already undergone validation and testing by ARAI, the top testing and certification organization in India.
Further supporting the interoperable charging framework, Tork Motors has previously partnered with Log9 Materials to allow users of both brands to access their chargers and charging network, which is likewise built on the BCA’s LEV DC interoperable standard.
Additionally, to enhance the Bharat Charge Alliance’s reach and capabilities, Pulse Energy, a major provider in smart charging solutions, has teamed with ChargeZone, a network of over 20 charging networks, to offer a unified and smooth charging experience. This partnership demonstrates the Alliance’s dedication to facilitating user-accessible and convenient EV charging, which will accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. By the end of the upcoming fiscal year, the stakeholders hope to have installed over 5,000 public charging stations across the nation. In the past, BCA and CHAdeMO Association collaborated to advance LEV interoperable charging infrastructure in India.
