Telangana-based logistics company Flytta has unveiled India’s first retrofitted 13-tonne electric truck, designed specifically for transporting cement bags across hilly and industrial routes. The move marks a significant step in the country’s push toward sustainable medium and heavy-duty logistics.

Developed in collaboration with Kalyani Powertrain, the electric mobility arm of the Kalyani Group, the truck will be deployed with Dalmia Cement on the Yadwad–Goa corridor, aiming to combine efficiency with reduced carbon emissions.

Fleet Deployment and Industry Impact

Flytta has commenced operations with the first fleet and plans to scale up by introducing around 200 retrofitted e-trucks in the coming months. The company now operates as a full-service electric trucking platform, offering vehicles with payloads ranging from 13 to 40 tonnes for sectors including cement, steel, coal, metals, and minerals.

Rahul Kanuganti, CEO of Flytta, said, “This collaboration shows how industrial transport can shift toward sustainable options without compromising efficiency. Our vision is to build a green logistics backbone for India’s growth, and this is a major step toward that goal.”

Pankaj Sonalkar, Managing Director of Kalyani Powertrain, added that the retrofitted truck is optimized for cement sector load and terrain conditions, emphasizing that advanced retrofitting can accelerate India’s transition to clean mobility.

Sustainability and Infrastructure Needs

Srawan Agarwal, Assistant Executive Director of Logistics at Dalmia Cement, highlighted the wider sustainability objectives driving the adoption of electric vehicles in industrial logistics. He noted that EV deployment is crucial for reducing carbon emissions and advancing India’s energy self-sufficiency.

However, Agarwal stressed that for industrial EV adoption to accelerate, there is a pressing need for enhanced infrastructure, including better road connectivity and expanded government-supported EV charging stations, rather than relying solely on private initiatives. With this launch, Flytta and Kalyani Powertrain aim to demonstrate that medium and heavy-duty electric trucks can be economically viable, sustainable, and operationally efficient, setting a benchmark for India’s green logistics future.
