In a breakthrough that could transform the electric mobility sector, Clean Electric has announced the launch of its revolutionary battery technology capable of fully charging electric vehicles in under 12 minutes. The innovation is set to drastically reduce charging times, which currently range from 60 to 120 minutes, making EV adoption more convenient for users across segments.

Proprietary Technology Backed by Global Standards

The new batteries from Clean Electric use universal CCS 2 DC charging standards, ensuring compatibility across a wide range of EV models and form factors. According to the company, these fireproof batteries have been rigorously tested for 3,700 rapid charge cycles, showing only 11% degradation in overall range.

The company’s Pune-based manufacturing facility has the capacity to produce 1,200 battery packs per month, enabling Clean Electric to cater to growing demand. This milestone comes after four years of R&D, supported by four granted patents in India and the US.

Industry-First Innovations for Safer, Faster Charging

Clean Electric’s battery architectures feature multiple first-of-its-kind technologies, including:

  • Direct Contact Liquid Cooling (DCLC) for large EVs such as e-cars and e-LCVs.
  • Self-Contained Adaptive Active Liquid Cooling (SCALC) for e-2Ws and e-3Ws.
  • Integrated DCLC with Cell-to-Pack (CTP) architecture, which boosts packaging efficiency and minimizes thermal runaway risks.

These innovations ensure that the batteries are intrinsically safe while enabling rapid charging without compromising lifespan.

Live Demonstration of Record-Breaking Charging

In Pune, Clean Electric showcased the real-world potential of its technology by charging:

The demonstration used BIS-approved Type 6 chargers, Bharat DC-001, and CCS 2 DC public chargers, proving global interoperability. The company claims this makes their product the world’s fastest-charging production EV battery.

Solving Key Barriers to EV Adoption

By addressing long charging times, fire risks, and limited range (200–300 km), Clean Electric believes its technology will remove key roadblocks to mass EV adoption. The company is already collaborating with leading OEMs and startups in the e-car, e-2W, e-3W, and e-LCV segments to integrate its battery solutions.

Ankit Joshi, Chief Product Officer at Clean Electric, said:

“This is a revolutionary moment for us. Our 12-minute charging technology sets a new global benchmark for EVs. We are committed to democratizing rapid charging with long battery life, ensuring both sustainability and user convenience.”

Future Plans and Vision

Looking ahead, Clean Electric will introduce Gen 3 batteries next fiscal year, designed to be affordable, high-energy-density solutions, making rapid charging accessible to mass markets.

Akash Gupta, Co-Founder of Clean Electric, expressed confidence in the company’s role in India’s clean mobility transition:

“We fully support Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji’s vision to phase out fossil fuel vehicles by 2034. With our innovations, we aim to be a catalyst for India’s EV ecosystem and add ‘Design in India’ to the ‘Make in India’ movement, positioning the country as a global tech powerhouse.”

Backed by Strong Investor Support

Founded in 2020 by Akash Gupta, Abhinav Roy, and Ankit Joshi, Clean Electric raised USD 2.2 million in seed funding in October 2022, led by Kalaari Capital. The investment has been channelled into advancing energy storage solutions across EV segments and building the Pune manufacturing unit.

Driving India’s EV Future

By enabling rapid, safe, and universal charging, Clean Electric’s technology could accelerate EV adoption nationwide. Experts believe that this advancement, if scaled effectively, will strengthen India’s position in global EV innovation and support the country’s shift towards sustainable and renewable mobility solutions.
