In a significant step towards strengthening global cooperation on clean mobility, Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Thursday met with a delegation from Norway to discuss electric vehicle (EV) policy and adoption. Both sides agreed to share expertise, policy insights, and best practices to accelerate the shift to sustainable transport.

The meeting covered a broad spectrum of issues, including EV technology, adoption models, and integration with public transport systems, according to PH reports.

The Norwegian delegation, representing a prominent think tank, commended Delhi’s Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI) buses for their role in improving last-mile connectivity in the capital. “The delegation appreciated the DEVI buses as last-mile connectivity. We would like to learn about their technology and policies and our experts will go there,” Singh said after the discussions.

A Norwegian representative highlighted that Delhi’s 9-metre electric buses are particularly well-suited for last-mile connectivity and offer convenience for passengers. “We had a great meeting during which discussions were held on EV policy. We discussed our experiences regarding EV adoption over the years in Oslo, which is a very small city compared to Delhi. We look forward to exchanging our knowledge and experiences,” the delegate said.

The visiting team also shared insights into Norway’s EV policy measures, including advancements in charging infrastructure, seamless public transport integration, and effective parking management.

Delhi’s DEVI buses are equipped with advanced features such as CCTV cameras, live tracking, panic buttons, and motorised ramps for differently-abled passengers. The buses also include retractable steps at a low boarding height of 40 cm, ensuring accessibility and safety for all commuters.

This collaboration aims to foster mutual learning between Delhi and Oslo—leveraging Norway’s global leadership in EV adoption and Delhi’s innovative public transport solutions to build a cleaner, greener future.
