Jindal Steel & Power Advances Toward Net Zero with Addition of 10 Electric Buses and 27 SUVs at Angul Unit

Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), one of India’s leading steel producers, has taken significant steps towards achieving its Net Zero goals. At its Angul unit in Odisha, JSP has introduced 10 electric buses and 27 electric SUVs, showcasing its strong commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonization.

Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel & Power, personally launched these electric vehicles, emphasizing the company’s dedication to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship. This move marks a crucial milestone in JSP’s journey towards Net Zero, demonstrating its contribution to a cleaner and greener Earth.

The deployment of electric buses and the integration of extensive solar installations at the Angul unit are pivotal in JSP’s pursuit of Net Zero. These initiatives not only reduce carbon emissions at the plant level but also enhance operational safety. The company prioritizes adherence to global standards in sourcing and manufacturing these zero-emission vehicles.

In addition to the electric vehicles, JSP Angul has commissioned a rooftop solar plant with a cumulative generation capacity of 21 million units per year. This initiative is expected to reduce the unit’s annual CO2 footprint by 18,000 tons, which is equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 3.6 lakh trees over a decade.

By making these significant investments, JSP continues to lead the way in integrating sustainability into India’s steel sector. The company’s adoption of electric vehicles and clean energy solutions sets a new standard for the industry, paving the way for a more environmentally conscious and sustainable future.

Overall, Jindal Steel & Power’s strategic initiatives at its Angul unit underscore its commitment to environmental responsibility and serve as a beacon for sustainable practices in the steel industry.
