Mahindra to Sell EVs Through Existing Retail Network

Mahindra & Mahindra, a leading Indian automobile manufacturer, has announced a strategic move to sell its electric vehicles (EVs) through its existing retail network. This decision sets Mahindra apart from its competitor Tata Motors, which has created a separate retail channel for its electric cars. By integrating the sales of its new EV models under the XEV and BE sub-brands with its current lineup, Mahindra aims to provide customers with a seamless experience and a wider range of choices.

The company’s latest electric SUVs, the BE 6e and XEV 9e, will be available alongside the popular Mahindra XUV400, with deliveries expected to commence in early next year. This approach not only highlights Mahindra’s commitment to the EV market but also underscores its strategy to leverage its established retail infrastructure to enhance customer convenience and satisfaction.

Mahindra’s Strategic Decision

Mahindra & Mahindra has introduced two new sub-brands, XEV and BE, dedicated to electric cars. Unlike Tata Motors, which created a separate retail channel for its electric cars, Mahindra will sell its new models through its existing retail network. This decision allows the company to offer all its vehicles under one roof, providing customers with a choice between internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and EVs.

Mahindra has expanded its electric vehicle range with the launch of two all-new ground-up models, BE 6e and XEV 9e. These models will be sold alongside the Mahindra XUV400. The deliveries of the newly launched electric SUVs are expected to commence in February-March next year.

Customer Experience

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO for auto and farm sectors at Mahindra & Mahindra, stated that the company wants to keep the sales channel the same to give customers a choice between ICE cars and EVs. This strategy aims to enhance customer convenience and satisfaction by providing a comprehensive range of options under one roof.

Mahindra’s decision comes at a time when its rival Tata Motors has launched a separate retail network to sell its electric cars. By leveraging its existing retail infrastructure, Mahindra aims to differentiate itself in the competitive EV market and attract a broader customer base.

Future Prospects

With the introduction of the BE 6e and XEV 9e, Mahindra is poised to strengthen its position in the EV market. The company’s focus on integrating EV sales with its existing retail network reflects its commitment to innovation and customer-centric strategies. As the demand for electric vehicles continues to grow, Mahindra’s approach is likely to set a new benchmark in the industry.

What Happened: JBM Auto’s arm has secured ₹750 crore in funding from Motilal Oswal to support the expansion of its electric bus rollout. The capital is expected to strengthen fleet deployment and execution capacity as India’s e-bus market scales up. The Key Number: ₹750 crore. Why It Matters: This is a strong financing signal for India’s electric bus ecosystem, where large upfront costs often slow deployment.
