Maruti Suzuki India Limited has crossed 50,000 cumulative electric vehicle exports since August 2025, strengthening India’s position as a manufacturing hub for electric mobility. The automaker accounted for nearly 93% of the country’s electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The milestone highlights the growing international demand for Indian-made electric vehicles and Maruti Suzuki’s expanding presence in global EV markets. The company’s electric SUV, the e VITARA, is manufactured exclusively at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat and exported to nearly 50 countries worldwide.

Maruti Suzuki began global shipments of the e VITARA in August 2025, marking the company’s entry into the global battery electric vehicle market. The electric SUV was developed for sale in more than 100 countries, with shipments gradually expanding across key international markets.

Europe remains the company’s largest export destination for the e VITARA. The vehicle is supplied to several markets, including the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, Japan and Switzerland.

The company has maintained its position as India’s largest electric passenger vehicle exporter, having led the segment in FY2025-26 and continuing its performance during the first half of FY2026-27.

According to Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi, the achievement reflects India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and increasing competitiveness in international automotive markets. He also recalled the commencement of e VITARA production at Hansalpur, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the company’s contribution to the Make in India initiative.

Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur manufacturing facility plays a central role in the company’s electric vehicle export strategy. The plant serves as the exclusive global production base for Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle.

The facility has recently expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, becoming the first Suzuki manufacturing plant worldwide to achieve this production capacity at a single location.

With cumulative investments of approximately ₹25,288.7 crore, the Hansalpur facility has developed into a major manufacturing and export hub. It accounted for nearly half of Maruti Suzuki’s total overseas shipments during FY2025-26, highlighting its importance to the company’s international business.

The expansion also strengthens the manufacturer’s ability to support overseas demand while continuing to develop its electric vehicle operations.

Maruti Suzuki’s EV export milestone builds on its broader success in the international passenger vehicle market. The company has remained India’s largest passenger vehicle exporter for five consecutive years.

During April–September 2026, Maruti Suzuki accounted for more than 50% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports. Its international portfolio currently includes 16 models supplied to nearly 120 countries.

The e VITARA’s export performance demonstrates how Indian manufacturing facilities can support the requirements of established automotive markets. Its presence across multiple countries also strengthens India’s role in the global electric mobility supply chain.

Crossing 50,000 electric vehicle exports in just over a year represents an important milestone for India’s electric passenger vehicle industry. Maruti Suzuki’s export performance highlights the potential of domestic manufacturing facilities to serve international markets at scale.

The achievement could also encourage further investment in EV manufacturing, supply chains and production infrastructure in India.

As global demand for electric mobility continues to develop, export-oriented manufacturing may become an important growth driver for India’s automotive industry. Maruti Suzuki’s expanding international footprint places the company in a strong position to contribute to this transition.

With the e VITARA reaching nearly 50 countries and the Hansalpur plant operating at an expanded production capacity, the automaker is strengthening its global EV strategy while reinforcing India’s ambition to become a competitive manufacturing destination for electric vehicles.
