In a significant boost to India’s growing electric mobility ecosystem, global automotive tech giant Valeo has inaugurated advanced manufacturing and assembly lines at its Pune facility. This move reaffirms Valeo’s commitment to accelerating electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India, aligning with the nation’s Make in India vision and the push for localized EV component production.
The enhanced facility will specialize in producing Valeo’s innovative 3-in-1 Combo Unit, an integrated power electronics solution combining On-Board Chargers (OBCs), DC-DC Converters, and Power Distribution Units (PDUs). These components are vital for EV efficiency, enabling smoother performance, space optimization, and reduced production costs for Indian automakers.
“At Valeo, we are committed to supporting xEV growth in India,” said Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo Power Division and Group Executive Vice President. “By investing in localized manufacturing capabilities, we contribute not only to sustainable mobility but also to India’s larger goal of becoming an EV manufacturing hub.”
Dupont, alongside Jayakumar G, Group President & Managing Director of Valeo India, officiated the inauguration of the new lines. Both leaders emphasized the strategic importance of localizing key EV technologies to support India’s evolving EV supply chain.
Local Innovation for Global Impact
The state-of-the-art Pune facility integrates smart automation, modular assembly processes, and sustainable manufacturing practices, making it a cornerstone for India’s domestic EV production capabilities. The 3-in-1 Combo Unit is a modular innovation that simplifies EV architecture by reducing weight, space, and wiring complexity—all while enhancing performance.
Key Functions of Valeo’s 3-in-1 Combo Unit:
- On-Board Charger (OBC): Converts AC grid power to charge the high-voltage EV battery (ranging from 7kW to 22kW).
- DC-DC Converter: Steps down high-voltage power to 12V to support auxiliary systems and low-voltage battery.
- Power Distribution Unit (PDU): Distributes power efficiently across critical EV components.
This integration is expected to play a vital role in upcoming EV models produced in India, helping OEMs meet performance targets while keeping costs competitive.
Strengthening India’s EV Backbone
With this expansion, Valeo aims to reduce India’s reliance on imported EV components, bolster local supply chains, and offer robust technological support to OEMs. This comes at a time when India’s EV market is rapidly maturing, with growing consumer demand, supportive government policies, and a strong shift toward sustainable transportation.
“This achievement is a testament to the collaboration between Valeo’s global and Indian teams,” said Jayakumar G. “As India ramps up its electric transformation, Valeo remains focused on delivering reliable and innovative solutions tailored to the Indian market.”
Valeo’s Continued Commitment to India
Operating in India since 1997, Valeo has built a strong presence with eight production sites and a global R&D center across Chennai, Bangalore, Pune, Sanand, and Gurgaon. Employing over 7,000 professionals, with nearly 50% in engineering roles, Valeo continues to invest in next-gen automotive innovations and EV technologies from India for the world. At All India EV, we see Valeo’s expansion as a strong signal of confidence in India’s electric future—where local innovation, scalable tech, and smart manufacturing are setting the pace for a cleaner, electrified tomorrow.
This is great news, now EVs can be cheaper and faster to build, At Nikol EV, we love when big brains build in India. We aim to build a strong, reliable, and efficient charging ecosystem.
