MAHA-EV Mission boosts e-mobility with 7 new e-Nodes; stakeholders meet to drive collaboration in India’s EV ecosystem.

The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has announced the selection of seven e-Nodes for support under its “Mission for Advancement of High-impact Areas on Electric Vehicles” (MAHA-EV). This initiative, launched under ANRF’s national mission, seeks to address critical challenges and foster innovation in India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.

The MAHA-EV call for proposals focused on three key Technological Verticals (TV): Tropical EV Batteries and Battery Cells (TV-I), Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) (TV-II), and EV Charging Infrastructure (TV-III). The selected e-Nodes will undertake projects in consortia mode, involving collaborations with academic institutions, R&D laboratories, and industry players to drive research and development in the EV sector.

The seven selected e-Nodes are as follows:

  1. Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
  2. International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, Hyderabad
  3. National Institute of Technology Surathkal
  4. Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur
  5. Indian Institute of Technology BHU
  6. CSIR-Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute, Pilani
  7. Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur

A total of 227 proposals were received from academic institutions, R&D laboratories, and industry stakeholders, reflecting wide enthusiasm for the initiative.

The seven selected e-Nodes will focus on different technological areas: two will concentrate on Tropical EV Batteries and Cell Technologies (TV-I), three will focus on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (TV-II), and two will work on EV Charging Infrastructure (TV-III).Through the MAHA-EV mission, India aims to strengthen its position as a global leader in next-generation electric mobility solutions, aligning with goals of sustainability, innovation, and self-reliance.
