Maruti Suzuki charging ahead with 25,000 stations for eVX

In a major push for the electric vehicle ecosystem, Maruti Suzuki India plans to introduce its first electric SUV, Concept eVX. The company also plans to install around 25,000 EV charging stations in the country.

Leveraging its service network of over 5,100 service centers spread across 2,300 cities, the carmaker is going to construct a strong charging infrastructure. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki is in active talks with oil marketing firms and energy companies to further expand the reach of its charging network.

For India, as for every country, having a lesser provision of charging infrastructures proved to be a significant challenge for the effective adoption of EVs. However, it’s a very bold move made by Maruti Suzuki to invest heavily in charging stations in order to overcome this challenge and make EVs readily available to Indian consumers.

“They (Maruti) have started surveying their dealer workshops for charging points. The plan is to have at least one dedicated bay and two charge points at its service centres. The company has already started training service mechanics in Bengaluru.”

Maruti Suzuki Partners with Oil Marketing Companies for EV Charging Infrastructure

In a strategic move to bolster its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Maruti Suzuki is partnering with major oil marketing companies to set up EV charging and service stations at their retail outlets. Howeever, according to sources within the oil marketing industry, the automaker has approached these companies to secure space for these facilities, ensuring widespread availability of charging infrastructure across the country.

Maruti Suzuki Managing Director Hisashi Takeuchi recently emphasized the company’s commitment to addressing customer concerns about EV ownership. “We will come up with a range of solutions to remove their concerns about owning an EV,” he stated. Moreover, leveraging its extensive network of service centers, Maruti Suzuki aims to provide customers with comprehensive after-sale support and instill confidence in the EV ownership experience.

The upcoming Concept eVX, Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, is expected to be priced between Rs 20-25 lakh and is projected to sell 3,000 units within the initial three months of its launch. Moreover, the electric SUV will be manufactured at the Gujarat plant and will be exclusively available through the premium Nexa outlets.
