In a major move to strengthen its electric mobility ecosystem, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government announced that EV incentives will be applicable only to vehicles manufactured, sold, and registered within the state, starting October 14, 2025, according to reports. The decision is part of the amended UP Electric Vehicle Manufacturing Policy 2022, aimed at boosting local EV production, generating employment, and attracting investment in greenfield and brownfield EV plants.

The revised policy will remain in force until October 13, 2027, and focuses on prioritising ‘Made in UP’ vehicles for all financial incentives. Under the previous scheme, incentives ranged from ₹5,000 for two-wheelers, ₹1 lakh for four-wheelers and electric goods carriers, to ₹20 lakh for buses. To date, 17,665 buyers have availed subsidies, while 38,285 applications remain pending, with total financial support of around ₹950 crore provided to accelerate UP’s EV adoption roadmap.

UP Transport Commissioner BN Singh highlighted that the updated policy is designed to strengthen Uttar Pradesh as a leading EV manufacturing hub, boosting both domestic production and local employment.

UP’s EV market has shown strong growth, recording 370,000 EV sales in FY25, surpassing states like Maharashtra (240,000), Karnataka (170,000), and Tamil Nadu (132,000).

The UP State Road Transport Corporation plans to expand its bus fleet from 13,000 to 25,000 by 2027, supported by electric depots with 240 kW universal chargers in eight cities. Additionally, 23 modern bus terminals are under development under a public-private partnership, with a second phase planning 54 more terminals, of which 50 are already under construction.

The UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) has also partnered with Central Electronics Limited (CEL) to set up EV charging stations in industrial zones integrated with renewable energy sources, further strengthening the state’s green mobility ecosystem.

This move positions Uttar Pradesh as a frontrunner in India’s EV manufacturing and adoption drive, promoting sustainability and boosting the state’s industrial growth.
